Project Title: Pneumatic Flow of a Vertical Axis Wind Turbine
Background
In 2013 I graduated with a MEng at the University of Leeds in Aeronautical and Aerospace Engineering where I undertook a number of design based projects. During this time I developed an interest in Low Carbon Technologies and joined the DTC in order to investigate the issues I was interested in at a higher level whilst providing different perspectives from colleagues in similar fields.
Research Interests
My PhD project aims to create a 2D Computational Fluid Dynamics model that is able to accurately predict the power production of a Vertical Axis Wind Turbine that uses air pumping over the blades to increase power production. This would result in the creation of a model that incorporates complex flow phenomena such as dynamic stall whilst being computationally inexpensive.
